Personality: Throughout the series, Melfina seems very quiet, very uncertain, full of doubt, and slight distrust. On the other hand, there are times when she can be far too trusting of someone, which causes her to show vulnerability. Sadly, she's easy to manipulate and seems to think that even the most horrible person must have some good within. She's loyal, dedicated, committed, easy to be frightened, serious, soft-spoken, and in some cases, even quite shy. At the end of the series, however, she changes slightly, to Gene's satisfaction. I would still think that she would act the same Melfina around the others, as well as new acquaintances and allies.
Abilities/Weaponry: I don't recall ever seeing Melfina use any weaponry of her own, so she doesn't have any offensive abilities outside of her own two hands. She does, however, have the ability to pilot the Outlaw Star (as she was created for such a purpose, as well as the Maiden of the Leyline). She does also appear to have the ability to heal others, assuming she's within the navigational tube of the ship (this may have also been possible on the El Dorado after Gwen Khan tinkered with the system at Ron and Harry MacDougall's request).
Weaknesses: I did mention this briefly before, but I'll do it again. ^^ I think her largest vulnerability deals with her beliefs about people, her trust in people. Unless she's specifically told not to do something, she's likely to allow her curiosity, which can cause a lot of trouble. I also think that her lack of any sort of melee and relying upon her strength leaves her open for a lot of conflict. Overall, again, she's easy to manipulate both physically and emotionally (although emotional trauma would last much longer).
History: Originally in possession of the Kei Pirates, she was stolen by Hot Ice Hilda, who later hired Gene Starwind and Jim Hawking as body guards. After the death of Hilda, however, she (along with the Outlaw Star) fell under Gene's hand. Many complicated and random storylines here and there, led to a slight attraction between Harry MacDougall and herself (which was really one-sided, due to the insane personality of the former). At the end of the series, she discovered that she was the key to opening the Leyline, rumoured to be the galaxy's greatest treasure. As the Maiden of the Leyline, it was her obligation, her duty, to bestow upon the one who reached the Leyline any wish that he (or she) had. Gene's wish was for her to return with him, and at that, she appeared to shut down in order to ask herself, the Melfina inside, what she wanted. Deciding that she wanted to return with him, freed her from the Leyline and she continued along with Gene and the others.
